Sprint/Time trial, H2H to be held on the New River at Fayette Station rapid (class III). Normal river flows here this time of year are low d/t rainfall, but any level is possible. This is a large volume river commercially runnable as low as less than 1000 cfs and with a commercial cutoff in excess of 30,000 cfs. Just the other day this stretch of river was running around 70,000 cfs! This rapid is picturesque with a full view of the famous New River Gorge bridge above.
Slalom to be held at Entrance rapid on the Upper Gauley river, class III, just below Summersville Dam at a standard “training day” release of 1800 cfs. The training day is held every year as a refresher day for commercial boaters and is not used for commercially guided rafting on this day.
The Open & Master’s divisions will race the downriver on the Upper Gauley, rated class V. The start will be just below Entrance rapid at Summersville Dam and will run through five commercially rated class V rapids, finishing at Sweet’s Falls, referred to by many as the coliseum of whitewater.
The Youth and Junior’s divisions will race the downriver on the Middle Gauley, commercially rated class IV, But will end the race just above class IV Wood’s Ferry, making this a class III run in order to abide by IRF rules. They will start below Sweet’s Falls.
